Bridge Project Summer Institute for Freshmen

Each year, the George Mason Office of Admissions conditionally admits approximately 15-20 non-native English-speaking freshmen who have strong academic records from Virginia high schools but limited English skills. These students are required to attend the Bridge Project Summer Institute, an intensive 5-week program that focuses on developing the reading, writing and vocabulary skills needed for academic study at a university. The Institute also familiarizes students with the culture of the university and introduces them to the campus and the services available to them, especially computer labs and the Writing Center .

Students are selected for the program from among freshman applicants. They attend the Institute 3.5 hours a day, 5 days a week for 5 weeks.

Tentative dates for the 2008 Summer Institute are June 30 - August 1, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.    No classes will be held on July 4.  Tuition is expected to be $325 per student and books and materials will cost approximately $50 - $70.
