Information About the ELI Faculty & Staff

All ELI faculty, including the Director and the Assistant Director, have master's degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language, Linguistics, or an equivalent field. All have significant teaching experience and most speak at least one other language, in addition to native fluency in English.

The ELI has a professionally active and committed faculty who participate in a number of professional organizations, including TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), WATESOL (Washington Area TESOL), the Northern Virginia Writing Project, the Virginia Institute for Life-Long Learning (VAILL), the American Association of Applied Linguistics (AAAL), and the Instructional Technology Council (ITC).

Only qualified instructors are considered for employment at the ELI. Faculty are hired with appropriate preparation and credentials for their responsibilities and continue to develop professionally while they teach. Faculty are encouraged to continue pursuing education areas in which they are interested, and also to become educated in new areas. This continued professional development ensures that all faculty are well qualified to teach courses in the program.
