Services for enrolled ELI students

The ELI offers a number of services for enrolled students to help you experience US culture while you learn English.

Orientation and Activities. You will learn about life at George Mason University and how to fully enjoy your American experience. The ELI Activities Coordinator organizes extracurricular films, field trips, and a variety of special events and excursions for ELI students.

Campus Privileges. You will receive a George Mason student identification card that provides free and complete access to the libraries and athletic facilities, free performances at the Center for the Arts, discounts on student-sponsored dances and parties, and a reduced fare on the local CUE bus transportation.

Housing.You will find convenient housing either on campus on a first-come/first served basis OR off campus. Opportunities to stay with an American family are also available. Please contact the ELI office for more information.

Food Service. You will find lots of dining options on camus, including a full-service dining hall, a food court, a bistro, and snack and convenience stores. You will also find a wide range of restaurants throughout the metropolitan area.

Transportation. You will get around easily with reduced fare local bus transportation from campus to stops throughout Fairfax, including direct service to Metrorail (subway). You will discover Metrorail and Metrobus are your fast connections from Fairfax to Washington, DC, and the greater metropolitan area.

Health Insurance and Services. If you are studying on an F-1 visa, you will be required to have adequate medical insurance. You may choose George Mason's comprehensive health insurance plan or a private policy. If you have a private policy, it must meet George Mason University standards and include a medical evacuation and repatriation clause. Contact the ELI office for complete details on health insurance. ELI students may also use the on-campus student health clinic.

 

Student Advising. You will always find someone at the ELI to help you with academic, cultural, or personal problems. Our program coordinator and entire teaching faculty and administrative staff are available whenever you need us. Do you want to enroll in a university degree-granting program? The ELI can help you apply to George Mason University or another appropriate college or university.
