Homeroom (Core Class) Information

Full-time ELI students (and part-time ELI students enrolled in Core classes) study together with the same instructor for 10 hours each week in their Core class. In addition to being an intensive English classroom, the Core class functions as a "homeroom". The Core class is the first scheduled class each day, meeting two hours a day Monday through Friday, and most announcements regarding ELI events, schedule changes, new policies and so forth, are made by Core class instructors. You will get to know your Core class instructor very well, and will make close friends with your Core class classmates. You will study together and go on field trips together to interesting and educational locations in the surrounding Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Your Core class instructor will be your "homeroom" instructor and will be ready to answer your questions and help you in many different ways, in addition to teaching you English. After a week or two in your Core class, you will begin to feel "at home" at the ELI.
